Cartoon Network Africa Wins A SABRE Gold Award For Cartoon Network Buddy Network
Cartoon Network Africa has won an African SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation & Engagement) Gold Award in the Public Education category for their anti-bullying campaign – Cartoon Network Buddy Network. The initiative encourages children to be friendly to each other and report and speak out against bullying in schools. Cartoon Network Buddy Network was rolled out for the first time in Africa last year after a successful rollout in Europe.
In Africa, the campaign was developed in co-operation with Childline South Africa. Olympic gold medalist track and field sprinter, Wayde van Niekerk represented the campaign as a Buddy Network ambassador. The campaign made use of animation, video content and storytelling to inform kids about bullying and how they can put an end to it. The award was presented to Robyn De Villiers, chairman and CEO of Burson-Marsteller Africa (Cartoon Network’s PR agency for Africa) and Aude Bousseau, the marketing and PR manager of Turner Africa. Cartoon Network Africa has also won a 2017 African Excellence Award in the “Content Marketing” category for Buddy Network, the 2017 African Excellence Awards ceremony will take place on 29th June in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Cartoon Network also won an African SABRE Certificate of Excellence in the “Marketing an Existing Product to Consumers” for the relaunch of The Powerpuff Girls animated series in collaboration with jazz-electro-hip-pop musician – Toya Delazy. Toya specially produced a reworked version of The Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot theme song for the African market and performed at the Powerpuff Girls Art Factory exhibit launch night in Cape Town, South Africa on 4th April this year.

The 2017 African SABRE Awards were held last Thursday (11/05/2017) in Marrakesh, Morocco as part of the APRA (African Public Relations Association) annual conference.
